Fernlea Featured by ABI Interiors
We're delighted to share that our home, Fernlea, has been featured by ABI Interiors, showcasing the renovation of our Victorian property in Linlithgow and the thoughtful details that bring it all together.
Purchased in 2022 after sitting unoccupied for 15 years, Fernlea was a project with plenty of challenges. From damp walls to holes in the ceilings and floors, the house needed a complete transformation. But beneath the disrepair, I could see the potential to create a home that felt personal, practical and full of character.
The renovation became an opportunity to put into practice many of the design principles that guide my work at Studio Heim: considered layouts, natural materials, timeless finishes and spaces that feel as good to live in as they look.
A Victorian home reimagined
One of the biggest changes was reconfiguring the ground floor to improve the flow between rooms and create a more welcoming entrance. An open archway connects the hallway to the new extension, while glazed doors to the living room and design studio allow natural light to travel through the space.
Upstairs, the extension allowed us to create a more generous primary suite, complete with a walk-through wardrobe and ensuite bathroom.
Throughout the house, the aim was to balance the character of the original property with a more considered, contemporary feel, creating a home that works for everyday family life without losing its sense of warmth.
Thoughtful details in the bathrooms
Bathrooms are spaces where the smallest decisions can make a real difference. The relationship between finishes, fittings and materials is particularly important in creating a scheme that feels cohesive rather than simply a collection of individual products.
For Fernlea, we used ABI Interiors fixtures throughout our bathrooms and utility room, combining brushed brass and stainless steel finishes.
In the primary ensuite, brushed brass fittings sit alongside gloss white wall tiles and a microcement floor, bringing together warmer metallic details and clean, understated surfaces. The result is a balance of contemporary simplicity and timeless appeal.
We also designed a family bathroom, downstairs WC and utility room, complete with a dedicated dog shower. It's a small detail, perhaps, but one that makes everyday life with two dogs that little bit easier.
Why we chose ABI Interiors
I've always believed that the details matter, particularly when designing spaces intended to last. Taps, shower fittings and handles might be smaller elements within a wider scheme, but they contribute so much to the overall feel of a room.
I love working with ABI Interiors. Not only are the products excellent quality and beautifully designed, but the team are lovely and always around to offer assistance when needed.
It's a combination of thoughtful design, quality products and a supportive team that makes working with a brand such a positive experience.
