Art in the Home: Studio Heim Featured by Plan
We’re delighted to have been featured by Plan in their Journal, in a conversation about one of our favourite subjects: art in the home.
In the Q&A, Kate talks about how artwork can influence the way a room feels, why it should be considered as part of the interior design process rather than simply added at the end, and how personal pieces can bring something truly unique to a home.
Making Art Part of the Design
At Studio Heim, we believe that art should never feel like an afterthought.
Whether a client already has a collection of artwork they love or is starting from scratch, we consider art alongside the wider interior scheme, looking at things such as colour, scale, tone and how each piece works with the architecture and furniture.

We also love the opportunity to incorporate artwork that has a personal story behind it. It doesn't have to be expensive or perfectly polished to have a place in a beautiful home. Sometimes the pieces that mean the most to our clients are the ones that make a space feel truly theirs.
This is particularly important to our approach to residential interior design. Our aim isn't to create homes that simply look beautiful, but spaces that feel personal, comfortable and connected to the people who live in them.
Where Art Can Make the Biggest Impact
In the interview, Kate also talks about some of the often-overlooked places where artwork can have a real impact, including hallways and staircases.
These transitional spaces are an opportunity to introduce something unexpected and create a moment as you move through the home. At the same time, rooms such as kitchens and living spaces can be wonderful places for artwork because they become part of everyday life.
“Start with something you genuinely feel connected to, rather than trying to fill a wall.”
It's advice we come back to often: choose pieces that you genuinely love, rather than choosing artwork simply because you feel a wall needs filling.
