At Studio Heim, we have a deep appreciation for incorporating house plants into our designs. We firmly believe that house plants infuse vitality into any space, introducing sculptural shapes, inviting textures, and captivating colors. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, indoor plants play a crucial role in purifying our air by absorbing carbon dioxide and other pollutants while enriching the environment with oxygen. Studies have shown that indoor plants can boost creativity and productivity, improve concentration and memory, and alleviate stress and fatigue.

Given all the benefits of having houseplants in our home, it's crucial to place them where they can thrive. For instance, let's take my Devil's Ivy in our studio. The room enjoys beautiful morning sunlight, but it becomes shaded in the afternoon. Initially, I was concerned about whether my plants would thrive here, and after some trial and error, some didn't! However, I discovered that Devil's Ivy is adaptable and can thrive in both light and shade. While it prefers a humid environment like a kitchen or bathroom, occasional misting keeps it content wherever it's placed!

To ensure your houseplants thrive, start by assessing the orientation of each room—whether it faces north, south, east, or west—and determine the light conditions in different areas. This allows you to create specific "zones" based on light intensity:

  • Hot zones, receiving plenty of direct sunlight.

  • Warm zones, with a balance of direct and indirect light.

  • Cold zones, mostly exposed to indirect light.

Each plant you acquire will come with instructions detailing its light preferences. By placing your plants in the appropriate zone based on their light requirements, you'll ensure they thrive and remain healthy!
